Don't shoot the messenger… bag.

Man Bag.

These two words carry are weighed down by social taboo. If you commute into work with anything other than a backpack or a suitcase, you are some sort of foppish social pariah, but as my friend at sssourabh aptly states:

On identifying the applicability of trends that can be made sustainable and extended into the future, they (innovators) readily accept these for a longer term appeal, unlike those that are seasonal.

… And that’s just it. The bag, in whatever form, has been a staple part of every man’s arsenal since hunters crafted pouches to carry their tools. In the early 00’s there was a vacuum and unless you were Gordon Gecko you no longer carried a briefcase. Some carried leather document holders, which also have their place and I will cover them in another post, but for those who wanted something a bit more casual without compromising the style… there was nothing.

Record bags were the beginning of the messenger bag I think. They were certainly the bag of choice when I was at school (even though noone in my year was a DJ). They were a practical shape for books and documents which is why I think designers identified with its’ shape and the bag evolved with us. It’s not an accident that they are so popular with my generation… I just think people haven’t realised what happened!

So here’s to the manbag, messenger bag, city bag, portfolio bag… whatever… I salute you! It’s just another great incarnation of something as essential to improving men’s quality of life as the shoe. In tribute to the man bag I’ve picked out a great selection of bags that are ideal for work, commuting or the weekend.

Hopefully you’ll be rocking one of these in time for the start of the new working week!

Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this blog. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s challenging to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and visual appearance. I must say you’ve done a great job with this. Additionally, the blog loads super quick for me on Opera. Exceptional Blog!
